As an Orcs & Goblins player my army needs to get across the board in one peice and a number of your opponents will be able to out gun you on the way there.

So the hence the need of a tactic to deal with gunlines.

The refused flank is one of my favorites.

This is a sample set up of an army that would allow you to take advantage of two general tactics.

The first is the refused flank. To do this is that you overload one side of the board, letting your opponent win one flank uncontested and attacking the other en masse. How this works is your opponent may balance his forces to attack/defend both flanks. The points he commits on the refused flank are wasted on nothing...no extra victory points for beating your units. And his other flank is facing half of your army.

The second is screening. I;m going to give up casualties no matter what. So I set units up in an atypical formation...long and thin. The opponents shooters have to pick these screening units to fire at. The larger you make them the better (as you can take more casualties per round w/o a panic check).

Specifically for OG you need to keep the army moving. Animosity in a leading unit will clog your lane and cost you the game.

I have a Black Orc Battle Standard Bearer out in front with your 1st unit of night gobblins, quell animosity keeps them moving forward. The second unit of night gobbos has the black orc general in it to keep it moving. Behind the night gobbos is the black orcs and chariot (s). These units are protected by the screens. As the screens take casualties, I pass the animosity with the characters and then drop them out in the movement phase so that they don't flee with the panicked unit.

The fanatics are staged to deliver three fanatics into any unit in your way of your charge. This can destroy enemy cavalry or units.

Once the night gobbos break or are expended, the black orcs and chariots
are now positioned on your opponents flank relatively unscathed and ready to fight.

Remember no battle plan survives contact with the enemy.
